Personal
Moved to Burlington, Vermont in October 1984, then to Barre in February, 1987.
Happily married to my wife, Marie, for 17 years. In addition to two awesome stepchildren: Justin (aka Punk #1) &
Curtis (aka “The Pride of East Finster” or Punk #2), we have been blessed with two beautiful children of our own:
Emily (16) and Patrick (6). They are truly a gift!
Employment
I was the “Kirby Man” when I first met Marie (yes….as in vacuum cleaners!!!). Also, worked for Eutectic & Castolin
(Maintenance & Repair Welding Rods), 1988-1990. In April 1990, I became the Major Accounts rep in Northern
Vermont for ADP Payroll, then moved to Ultimate Software, selling Payroll & Human Resource Software in Northern NE.
My job was essentially to assist the firm as they were changing their status from a privately held company through an
IPO. I then left in May 1999 to become self-employed.
Image Renewal Service, & Geiger
I purchased the business from my brother-in-law in February, 1996 (he still claims he “gave” me the business!), and
“moonlighted” on a part-time basis until leaving Ultimate 1999. I then joined Geiger as an Independent Sales Partner
in February 2000. I recently moved (July, 2006) to a new home with a larger office giving me the opportunity to bring
in back-office assistance & possibly expand my business as well…should I so desire!
Geiger Awards include:
• Sales Partner of the Year, NorthCentral Region 2001
• Regional “Achievement” Award, 2003
• Geiger Sales Advisory Council, 2004
• Square Rigger Club ($ 2.5 Million Sales) , 2005
• Qualified for Conference every year since joining Geiger (6-for-6)
Why Promotional Items???
Three Reasons Primarily...
1.) As opposed to a quota-driven, highly aggressive one-&-you’re-done sales approach, the advertising & promotional
items industry caters to my strengths: a low key and I’d like to think, a “laid back” approach; and a desire for long-
term relationship building. Also my strong attention to details and follow-up seems to really stand out.
2.) Through Geiger, which is truly a wonderful business partner, I am able to approach projects and situations from an
ownership standpoint. As opposed to a commissioned salesperson, I really have a say in day-to-day situations, &
issues when they do crop up. Geiger also provides me with special price advantages, industry education, resources &
know-how that I wouldn’t be able to achieve on my own. I still run some business through Image Renewal as a
reminder that I’m still self-employed though!
3.) Most importantly, this is a fun business!! In most cases, my customers are looking to put a smile on someone’s face
or at least make them feel good. It doesn’t matter if the item/gift is expensive or not, people love & appreciate
receiving promotional-related goodies. And if I’ve chosen the right product, then your message will be conveyed for a
long time.
This is a definitely a feel-good business, & I try to approach it with this in mind. I’m an excellent fit for any client who
wants to reduce the stress with their promotional item projects & purchases!!
